Overview

As part of the V.A.C.T. Mural Festival, curated by Art in Uncommon Places, I created Starry—a large-scale mural celebrating confidence, freedom, and personal growth. This project marked my first mural festival experience and offered the opportunity to create alongside artists from diverse backgrounds while engaging directly with the surrounding community.

The festival fostered an environment rooted in encouragement, collaboration, and mutual respect, allowing each artist’s voice to exist fully within the collective experience.

About the Experience

Starry represents the qualities I strive toward—adventurous, confident, and unafraid to live freely. Creating this piece was both exciting and challenging, pushing me to trust my instincts while navigating the real-time pressure of a festival setting and a firm completion timeline.

What made this experience truly meaningful was the sense of community surrounding it. From genuine conversations with fellow artists to witnessing each piece evolve from start to finish, the festival became a powerful reflection of how our individual journeys shape our creative voices.

Traveling and painting alongside my family added another layer of depth to the experience, reinforcing the importance of support, balance, and shared growth within my creative practice. I left the weekend feeling deeply grateful—for the curators who created space for this work to exist, for the artists I met, and for the reminder that public art is as much about connection as it is about the final piece.

Community Impact

The completed mural now lives as part of the V.A.C.T. Festival’s growing public art footprint, contributing to Art in Uncommon Places’ mission to create inspiring, prominent, and lasting works of art gifted to the city of San Angelo. Installed in a unique and uncommon location, the piece is intended to be freely experienced by the community while encouraging connection, reflection, and creative engagement in shared public spaces.
