City Year 2022 Ripples of Hope
Gala attendees participate in interactive art installation.
Overview
For City Year San Antonio’s Ripples of Hope Gala, we collaboratively designed and produced a series of large-scale, interactive art installations that transformed the outdoor event space into an immersive, participatory experience. The installations invited guests to engage directly with City Year’s mission through reflection, creativity, and visual storytelling—turning impact into something tangible and communal.

Project Context
City Year San Antonio sought to create an engaging outdoor experience for their annual Ripples of Hope Gala—one that moved beyond traditional event visuals and invited meaningful participation from attendees. The result was three temporary wall installations:
Fill-in-the-Blank Chalkboard Wall (16ft x 8ft):
An open-ended prompt wall where guests shared reflections and responses, evolving organically throughout the evening.“Will You Help Them Grow?” Height Wall (16ft x 8ft):
A draw-in-your-height installation symbolizing growth over time and City Year’s sustained investment in student success.Impact Map String Board (8ft x 8ft):
A tactile map connecting all City Year locations, visually illustrating how individual contributions ripple outward into collective impact.
This project was created in collaboration with Austin Moncada, a San Antonio–based graphic designer, illustrator, and brand creative known for his abstract, handmade approach to visual storytelling. His organic, tactile style helped reinforce the human-centered nature of the installations.
